Main components of project

To achieve this goal, two main instruments were developed with within the framework of the UNICEF project “positive parenting” (April 2010 – March 2011) – SMS and child’s growth and development card.

Consequently, the following activities were carried out within the scope of the project:

  • Personal child growth and development cards were distributed;
  • Personal child growth and development card was introduced to doctors and a manual for the use of the card was prepared;
  • Software of positive parenting was developed;
  • Project was communicated to society;
  • A document on a future cooperation vision was developed to ensure sustainability of the project.

Project results

Every parent/guardian of a newly born child registered in the database of the Civil Registry was handed over a personal child growth and development card. From 1 January 2012, a card has been given as a gift to every parent/guardian of a newly born child.

Every parent/guardian registered in the database of the Civil Registry is integrated into the SMS system. SMS is sent to parents and guardians of children under the age of six in accordance with the birth registration (SMS are sent in Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian languages).

Relevant medical institutions are aware of personal child growth and development card and are able to use it.

Within the framework of the project, services were integrated on the webpage www.my.gov.ge, thus enabling parents/guardians to get authorization with new ID cards. From the menu they need to choose “Family,” then “Children” and the following information will appear on the screen: surname, name, date of birth and SMS. By clicking SMS, more detailed information about a child as well as SMS sent within the framework of the project will appear on the screen.
