The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated at the Community Center

In the community center in the village of Berdzenauli in the Kareli Municipality, Paralympic athletes hosted a comprehensive information session for up to 15 graduating students from the local public school and seven underage beneficiaries of the Kareli Day Center “Bridge of Kindness.”

The event’s slogan was “There Are No Limited Abilities” and its purpose was to raise awareness among local teenagers.

Corporals Temur Dadiani and Aleko Gitolendia, both of whom were injured during their service in Afghanistan, hosted an informative and interactive session with the young people.

Temur Dadiani is a Georgian fencer who has won three national championship titles in fencing, three European para-wrestling championships, four vice-world titles and five Georgian championships. He is also a two-time record holder in Guinness World Records for weightlifting and paraskier. Aleko Gitolendia who has been awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali of the second degree for its impeccable services and the Order of the third degree for its services, is a multiple winner of championships in various sports, including basketball, swimming, cycling, canoeing and archery.

The athletes shared their stories of military service and their experiences with the young people – how they had led their lives after losing lower limbs and how they had achieved success.

The Ministry of Justice and LEPL Public Service Development Agency continuously work to identify the needs of people with disabilities, raise public awareness in this area and create a more inclusive environment for disabled individuals.

Infrastructure and services within the justice system have been adapted to accommodate people with disabilities. For several years, deaf and hearing-impaired citizens have been able to access more than 40 various public services from the comfort of their own homes.
