For the first time, the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice has handed over the country signing primary certificates (CSCA) to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) proving the authenticity of biometric passports and electronic identity cards.

Vladimir Sichinava – the Deputy Chairperson of the Agency, presented certificates to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada. These certificates were uploaded to the Public Key Directory (ICAO PKD) of the organization.

The Public Key Directory is a unified document authentication system that maintains data from 193 member countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization. This system facilitates the secure and efficient exchange of information regarding travel documents between states at borders.

Compliance of the country signing primary certificates with ICAO standards significantly enhances the trustability of travel documents issued by Georgia. Consequently, it will be even easier for Georgian nationals with an ID card and biometric passport to undergo border control procedures.

During the visit to Montreal, representatives from the Public Service Development Agency attended the 18th ICAO Symposium. At the event, delegates became familiar with new technical and legal standards in the area of security and identity verification for electronic travel documents.

The International Civil Aviation Organization establishes and continuously updates international standards for the credibility and safety of travel documents. It also periodically hosts symposia, in which the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, as a development-focused agency, regularly participates to provide citizens with an even better experience.
