As part of a Door-to-Door campaign, which aims to identify and assist stateless and undocumented individuals and promote the full realization of their human rights, representatives from the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice and the UNHCR conducted an information session on the issue of stateless and undocumented individuals in the municipalities of Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli. The session was attended by heads of local government and administrative bodies, as well as representatives of local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working on related issues. The participation of these stakeholders is essential to identify potential beneficiaries and address cases of statelessness within the country.
Although the number of stateless and undocumented individuals in Georgia is relatively small, it is still a priority for the state to ensure that every person residing in Georgia is registered and has an identity document in order to fully participate in society and enjoy the rights granted to them by law, also having access to all public services. At the initiative of the Minister of Justice, individuals identified as undocumented as a result of the campaign will be provided with an identity document at no cost.
