It has now become possible to include the permanently established status of a disabled person in his/her electronic identity card

One of the primary objectives of the Ministry of Justice is to ensure the well-being of people with disabilities, streamline public services for their benefit and enhance the accessibility of services.

The Public Service Development Agency, in collaboration with representatives from the community of individuals with disabilities, has introduced a new initiative. This initiative aims to provide individuals with a permanent disability status with the opportunity to add their disability status to their electronic identity card. This innovation will allow individuals of this group to fully access all the benefits, services and opportunities provided by various governmental agencies and organizations as required by law.

The status of a disabled person may be added to an electronic identity (residence) card if, upon receiving an electronic identity (residence) card, a citizen provides appropriate documentation confirming that, at the time of receiving the card, he or she is a disabled person with the status of a disability and that this status is permanent. Upon request, information regarding the status of a disabled person, with an indication of the relevant category, will be entered into the electronic identity (residence) card and memory card;

Additionally, if a citizen already holds a valid electronic identity (residence) card and wishes to include information about a disability in the document, they must provide appropriate documentation confirming their status to the relevant authority, which is typically the local branch of the Public Service Hall, territorial office of Public Service Development Agency or a community center.

The addition of information regarding the disability status to the electronic identity (residence) card is free of charge. The information regarding the disability status will be incorporated into the already issued identity document within 7 business days of the application.

In the event of a change of a person’s electronic identity (residence) card, they may, at their discretion, present the relevant documentation and have the status information on the card updated.

It has become possible to add the status of a disabled person established without verification (permanent) on an electronic identity (residence) card, based on the amendment made to Decree №98 “On Approval of the Procedure for Registration and Deregistration of Georgian Citizens and Aliens Residing in Georgia and Issuance of Identity (Residence) Cards, Passports, Travel Passports, and Travel Documents” of the Minister of Justice dated July 27, 2011.
