Registration of paternity establishment means the recognition of a certain person as a father of a child, through which a child acquires rights and obligations towards a father. A child whose parentage is established by joint application of parents or by court judgment, shall have the same rights in relation to the parents and relatives as a child born to a married couple would have. For paternity establishment, a person may apply to the territorial offices of the Public Service Development Agency or the Public Service Hall branches.
a) a child, with respect to whom the registration of paternity establishment is to be conducted, is a citizen of Georgia, a person holding the Georgian residence permit, was born in Georgia, or if his/her birth was registered in Georgia;
b) one of the parents of a minor child is a citizen of Georgia or a person holding the Georgian permanent residence permit;
c) a Georgian court has delivered a judgement establishing paternity;
d) a judgement establishing paternity has been rendered by the court of other country and has been recognised as determined by the legislation of Georgia.
