The infrastructure and services provided by the justice system are most adapted for the needs of people with disabilities
The Ministry of Justice system has made significant strides in making its services more accessible to people with disabilities.
Tbilisi Public Service Hall: A wheelchair ramp has been designed and built along the outer perimeter, which makes the interior space equally accessible to everyone; Service rooms are accessible to wheelchair users and consulting rooms are equipped with special tables adapted for wheelchair users.
The space has been fully adapted to meet the needs of blind and visually impaired individuals. Special tactile pathways have been installed throughout the interior, with stairwells, steps, elevator access points and other essential areas marked with special floor coverings. A Braille navigation map and directional signs have been placed at the entrance, as well as signs on each floor and in each room in Braille. There is an ongoing project to adapt Batumi and Kutaisi Public Service Halls like Tbilisi Public Service Hall. The website of the Public Service Hall and online services are also accessible to people with disabilities, with an adapted version of the website featuring three different functionalities for blind and visually impaired applicants: sound, contrast and magnification. In the near future, deaf citizens and those with hearing impairments will also be able to access services independently. Operators who will become proficient in sign language have already been selected.
The Public Service Development Agency:
Deaf individuals and those with hearing impairments will have access to 31 diverse services without the need to leave their homes. These services will be provided by qualified professionals who are proficient in sign language.
The adapted website of the Public Service Development Agency for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons is operational (voice.sba.gov.ge), through which blind individuals receive information in a voice-enabled format. By integrating additional functionalities, visually impaired applicants will be able to customize the background color and font size of the website.
The Ministry of Justice has adapted the infrastructure of its community centers for disabled persons and the process of adapting the websites of these centers for blind individuals will commence in the near future.
The National Agency of Public Registry:
Blind and visually impaired individuals are able to receive a range of documents relating to the registration of property in Braille.
The electronic system of the real estate register has been modified (https://naprweb.reestri.gov.ge) so that people with disabilities can easily access information and obtain free electronic services through a voice program.
Thanks to the availability of the infrastructure and services of the LEPLs of Ministry of Justice for people with disabilities, agencies can employ individuals with disabilities. At present, the Ministry and LEPLs employ approximately 30 individuals with disabilities.
The ease of access to services for people with disabilities has been made possible thanks to the assistance of donor and partnership organizations. The Ministry of Justice would like to extend its gratitude to the Polish Embassy in Georgia, the representative office of the European Union in Georgia, the United Nations Development Programme, the Swedish International Development Cooperation, “Mariani” Union and the Georgian Blind Union for their cooperation.
