The Ministry of Justice has developed a mobile application „Schengen/EU App“to calculate the duration of visa-free travel

The mobile app “Schengen/EU App” was developed by the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice. The launch event for the application was hosted by the Minister of Justice – Tea Tsulukiani. Following the presentation, the app was submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia for management.

The presentation was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the top officials of the Public Service Development Agency, diplomatic corps, donor organizations and students.

After the implementation of the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens within the Schengen Area/EU, the main focus of the Georgian government has been to promote compliance with the regulations associated with the visa-free scheme for the population and to develop additional advisory tools.

It is important to note that immediately following the implementation of the visa-free regime, a brochure on the entry regulations will be distributed to all citizens at the branches of the Public Service Hall, territorial offices of the Public Service Development Agency and community centres, upon receipt of passports and identity cards. To date, approximately 800 000 brochures have been distributed.

In order to provide information to citizens, the Ministry of Justice is continuing its work. For this purpose, a mobile app called the Schengen/EU App was developed by the Public Service Development Agency. This app will help Georgian citizens keep track of the days they spend in the Schengen Area and count the remaining days they have left.

It is essential for individuals to accurately calculate the permitted 90-day limit within a 180-day period in order to avoid inadvertently violating the terms of the visa-free regime.

The app is straightforward and allows users to:

• Record the history of visits to the Schengen Area (including countries);

• Calculate the number of remaining days;

• Share visual data regarding a specific trip or travel record on social media.

The interface of the application is trilingual (Georgian, English, and Russian).

The application serves as a useful tool to inform the public. “Schengen/EU Application” has no legal force. It fully complies with the Law of Georgia “on Personal Data Protection”. The information entered into the application is retained on the user’s device. The „Schengen/EU App“  was developed by the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and with the assistance of the EU and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

After the presentation of the travel days calculation app, the „Schengen/EU App“ was submitted by the Public Service Development Agency to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for managing and supporting the app.
