The Public Service Development Agency has entered into an agreement with UNHCR regarding the implementation of a Door-to-Door campaign

The Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice has launched a Door-to-Door campaign to identify stateless/undocumented individuals and provide them with documents, and it is being promoted under the slogan “Record Your Existence”. The aim of the campaign is to eliminate the issue of statelessness within the country.

The Chairperson of the Agency – Ketevan Betlemidze and the Head of UNHCR in Georgia – Kamlin Furley have signed an agreement to implement a Door-to-Door campaign.

At the initiative of the Minister of Justice, beneficiaries of the campaign will be provided with identity documents free of charge. Mobile teams will identify, determine citizenship status of stateless individuals in the regions and provide them with documents.

Undocumented individuals will be able to apply for documentation without having to leave their current location. In order to collect biometric information on the ground, the UNHCR has provided the Agency with specialized equipment necessary for the collection of data for biometric documentation.

The campaign will be carried out throughout the country with the support of UNHCR.

Although the number of stateless or undocumented individuals in Georgia is small, the State takes all necessary steps to ensure that every person living in Georgia has a registered identity and an identification document in order to fully participate in society and enjoy all the rights granted by law and have access to all public services.
