Within the framework of the European Migration Network, a joint conference between Georgia and Estonia– “Supporting Data-Driven Decision Making in Migration Management” took place

In recent decades, the volume and complexity of international migration flows has increased, posing new challenges for migration management globally. This has led to a growing need for innovative technological solutions and approaches to effectively address the evolving migration landscape. Automated systems enable the collection and processing of large volumes of data, facilitating decision-making by relevant authorities. Different data processing tools have varying impacts on the decision-making process: some allow for the creation of predictive models and risk assessments, while others facilitate fully or partially automated decision-making process.

The main focus of the conference, hosted by the Georgian and Estonian National Focal Points of the European Migration Network (EMN) was a discussion on the appropriate use of data to support decision making in the area of migration management and the development of a data-driven approach to future migration policy.

The conference, which was held on September 20, 2022 in Tbilisi, was hosted in a hybrid format and attracted more than 100 participants from member and observer countries of the European Migration Network. The event focused on online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP) systems, as well as the challenges associated with the transition from one system to another. In addition, a special session on the introduction of innovative technologies in the public sector was held at the end of the main conference sessions.

The conference was the inaugural joint event between EMN Georgia, as the National Focal Point (Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice) of the European Migration Network, and EMN Estonia (Estonian Academy of Security Sciences), held in close collaboration with the Innovation and Technology Agency of Georgia (GITA).
